There's something new in the Midlands Electronic Music scene and it's happening right here in Nottingham...

Trevor Easton caught up with fellow LeftLion writer Rich Higton to discuss his brand-new podcast, Midsynth.

What's the podcast about?
The main purpose of the podcast is to shine a spotlight on the vast amount of talent in the electronic music community in the East Midlands.
There are so many talented artists, creating exciting electronic music in various genres, and the hope is to spread that music to as wide an audience as possible.
What gave you the idea for the podcast?
A while back I got involved with the EMOM (Electronic Music Open Mic) nights, in both Nottingham and Derby. I was exposed to some amazing local artists like Hexial, Rezzonator, Gerry Carnelly, Filter Sequence and many others. I have started a collaboration on an album with Hexial, Gerry Carnelly and a guy you might know called Bassey. The main idea of this was to give a spotlight on the local scene and I thought a podcast would be a logical extension to that.
How did you get started in the music scene?
My background is in video art and music - I have been making music for nearly 20 years now under various guises. Music has always been very important to me. Growing up, I listened to a lot of my parents' records, taking in David Bowie, ELO, The Beatles and many disco artists. In my teens (the early to mid-1990s) I was drawn into the Happy Hardcore rave scene and my love of electronic music began. As I grew older, I explored more and more electronic acts - The Prodigy, Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, Royksopp and Air all had a great influence on my taste and inspired me to make my own music.
When can we listen to the podcast?
The first episode is due out in July and the plan is to release an episode monthly, with new releases from the cream of East Midlands talent. Going forward there may be special episodes with interviews and spotlights on individual artists.
To get in touch and keep up with the podcast, follow @KlineSinclair on Instagram.
If anyone from the area would like to have their electronic music considered for the playlist then email klinesinclair@aol.com - the deadline for the inaugural episode is 1 July.
