This Saturday, when we should have all been moseying down to Wollaton Park for a day of dancing and drinking, the tireless team behind Splendour will be hosting a one-off digital festival, aiming to bring the essence of the festival directly to our homes, while asking us to dig deep for local charity Framework….
You will be able to catch loads of different kinds of entertainment throughout the day, from 12pm to 6pm, on Splendour’s YouTube channel. In the spirit of Glastonbury, archive footage from Splendours past will be streamed, including last year’s headline set from Manic Street Preachers.
Exclusive performances from three of our city’s finest acts are on the cards – namely Harleighblu, Nina Smith and Georgie. And to carry on the good vibes, there’ll be a Gem Anthems DJ set from Dan Wood, the man behind the silent discos that have become a Splendour staple over the years.
You’ll also have the chance to catch up with Splendour Sessions – a series of performances by local stars including Ajay Henry, BLLE, Bria and Re Teu to name just a few - which were streamed live from Splendour’s Facebook page during lockdown.
If you usually flock to Splendour’s comedy stage, you can recreate the experience from your couch, as Funhouse Comedy’s Spiky Mike will act as compère to two excellent comedians – rapidfire gag merchant Tony Cowards and actor, writer, comedian, and juggler Steve Royle.
And in case kicking back to your favourite artists and comedians isn’t your jam, there’s plenty to get you mind and body moving. Join a salsa class with Salsa Bae’s Danielle Sorsby, hot off the heels of her appearance at Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place online festival a few weeks ago. Or test your Splendour knowledge with a killer quiz hosted by NUSIC’s Sam Nahirny. And if you’ve got little ones clamouring to get involved, check out WilderNests, an interactive performance for families by Handmade Theatre.
In exchange for a stellar day of online entertainment, the Splendour team are asking for donations to Framework, a charity delivering vital housing, health, employment, support and care services to people with a diverse range of needs across the Midlands and beyond.
