Just meander down to Sneinton Market and you’ll quickly realise that Nottingham has a thriving skateboarding scene, ranging from seasoned skaters to young kids learning the ropes. And that’s in no small part thanks to Skate Nottingham, the non-profit developing the skateboarding community in Nottingham through free lessons and access to skating spaces.

Now Skate Nottingham needs our help as they launch their new crowdfunding campaign - with the money going toward a new skate friendly public space in Nottingham. Intended for all weather conditions, the space plans to be 15x12 m, situated beneath the tram Viaduct, next to Nottingham Contemporary Art Gallery.

Planning to name the space ‘Tram Line Spot’ (TLS for short), the designs are currently up for debate, however there has been conservation about ramps, ledges, rails, manual pads and sculptural installations - depending on what the skaters desire.

Skate Nottingham are currently working with Nottingham City Council, Betongpark and Skateboard GB to design and fund the space, with £5000 already committed to from Skateboard GB. However, they still need public input to raise the £15,000 it will take to build the installations, alongside providing free skate lessons for the next 12 months.

Also hoping to use TLS as a place for art, photography workshops and skate jams, the space promises to be a real asset to the city and its residents.

We have a favour to ask
