Bras Not Bombs & I’m Not From London Celebrate International Women’s Day
The gals at Bras Not Bombs are determined to do all they can to support refugees, victims of war and women fighting for their lives, and they do an absolutely cracking job of it. This Friday, they’ve decided to let their hair down by throwing an all-out girl-fest in honour of International Women’s Day and their second birthday. With a bit of help from the I’m Not From London lads, they’ve lined up a bunch of lovely ladies to provide the entertainment for the night, including music from Towers, Babe Punch and Stiff Kittens, the artistic genius of Emily Catherine and the poetic prowess of our beloved Bridie Squires. All money raised will go towards buying bras, baby nappies and underwear for women in need. Feel free to bring along any undies you may have lying around at home.

Ghost Bus Roads: Land Rover Mapping Screening
Renowned Italian artists Roberto Alborghetti is buzzing to be back in Hoodtown to present a selection of short films featuring his artwork. As part of the Italy Arts and Photography Exhibition, the films celebrate the success of Roberto’s visual art project, which was born and developed in Notts, Chilwell and Beeston, and they’ll be a showing of his popular film The Ghost Bus, which was created using images of an old bus from Barton Garage. Starting at 7pm, viewers will get to see five of Roberto’s older works before the premier his latest work, Land Rover Mapping.

The Mad Hatters Bicycle Ride
Hats are one of the more interesting categories of clothing. Some people love ‘em, never being seen without some sort of bonce warmer nearby. Others hate ‘em, cringing every time one comes anywhere near the perimeter of their tresses. Hoodtown has its very own group of hat lovers who are determined to spread the head-wear love, so have organised one of their Mad Hatters bike rides to get us all on board. Starting from the City War Memorial, you’ll embark on a gentle ride before ending up at a friendly pub, all while proudly showing off your best… you guessed it… hat. Designer hats, old hats, handmade hats, any hat that you’re happy to don as you peddle around the city. They had to cancel last time cus of the snow, but they’ve rescheduled so nobody misses out. Blimey, that’s a mouthful. Each month, Lane and Small Food Bakery collaborate on a pop-up event which showcases the best of independent brands, food and makers in Nottingham. For their Mother’s Day spesh, they’ve roped in some right crafty boggers who can help find the perfect gift for yer ma. Browse the treasures on offer from online lifestyle store NAMOKI, pick up an 100% organic and vegan beauty product from Skin Elixir or treat her to a bouquet of locally grown British flowers from Elder & Wild. As always, Small Food Bakery will be there to provide the sweet treats, and will also be offering an Afternoon Tea for two for just eighteen quid. Sounds like a perfect Saturday outing to us.

Prosthetic Workshop with Fake Up
If you’ve ever wondered how films can mek it look like someone’s taken a bullet to the chest or lost a limb, this one’s for you. Fake-Up one day workshops are for both new and experienced SFX artists who’d like to learn a bit more about all that good stuff, from creating fake wounds to bodycasting. This month, the workshop is taking place at the Malt Cross and will focus on prosthetics, namely creating silicone prosthetic pieces and practising practical colouring and skin blending. In simpler terms, that means you’ll be learning how to mek cuts and stuff. Be warned - these workshops ain’t for the squeamish or faint hearted, but don’t worry if you start feeling faint; our Steve from Fake-Up actually takes this as a compliment.
