Nottingham Indie Fashion Week: Nottz Warriors

Friday's dance/fashion hybrid event, in video form, with interviews from Bantum's Simeon Hartwing and more

Friday evening saw The Lacehouse transformed into a fully-fledged catwalk. With black drapes dripping from the ceiling and plush leather settees lining the runway, you’d barely recognise the place after all those 2am boogie sessions.

Perhaps one of the most innovative ideas for a fashion show, the independent labels and dance troops of Nottingham clubbed together to create a fusion of the arts for all to see for free. Not only that, but the whole thing had a running theme of the 1979 film The Warriors. Awesome.

With a graffiti-style backdrop crafted by Tim Onga, the scene was set. Vintage clothing shop Cow were out in full force, with belly dancers doing their thing in excellent style, then there was Eternal Spirit, who make corsets and lingerie, with burlesque dancers showing off their beautiful items. Bantum Clothing, Mimm, The Tribes, Gutta Clothing, From the Heart, and One BC all represented their brands with breakers, some of who were packing serious skill. The atmosphere was lively and supportive - it proved there are much more interesting ways of hosting fashion shows than your simple catwalk get-up.

The whole thing was outlined as a battle, but that got a bit lost in the madness. Nonetheless, the event was a great way to celebrate the various bits of creativity that are knocking around and about Nottingham. Nice one to the Creative Quarter for making this possible, it’s important that these busy bees are highlighted for their excellent work.

Nottingham Indie Fashion Week ran from Tuesday 10 - Sunday 15 March.
