Festival season officially starts here, and it’s kicking off with a right wordy celebration of all things lyrical...
The Nottingham Poetry Festival is back with a bang, set to inspire and entertain the general Nottingham populace with a plethora of poetic prose from both local, national and international names.
Backed by Nottingham Trent University (NTU) and Confetti Media Group (CMG) with support once again from Castle Rock Brewery and Nottingham UNESCO City of Literature, the festival – produced by Henry Normal, Craig Chettle and Tommy Rosley of Hockley Hustle – is loaded with a diverse programme of over 50 events spanning ten days at some of Nottingham’s most beloved venues.
The stellar line-up includes national names in Roger McGough CBE, Jackie Kay MBE, Joolz Denby, Mark Grist, Holly McNish and the very funny Elvis McGonagall, together with many local poets including Nottingham’s Young Poet Laureate Georgina Wilding, the internationally renowned Jai Verma of Kava Rang, Andrew “Mulletproof” Graves, Milla Tebbs, and Stephen Thomas.
Mr Normal is gonna be hosting a series of free “Poetry Hour” events at Nottinghamshire Libraries, and he’s bringing along some of his favourite local poet mates too. You’re all invited to join in by bringing along poems to read aloud yersen.
“Sexy Poems” will be unveiled at the Fox and Grapes, Clickbait at Jam Cafe, while slams, writer’s workshops, Songs and Rhyme for Miners and much more will take place at venues across the city. Georgina Wilding, Nottingham's Young Poet Laureate will have poetry banners installed around the city, commissioned by the Hockley Hustle and Young Hustler music and art festival.
We’ve got our very own event cracking off at the Fox and Grapes, too, hosted by our Poetry Editor, Aly Stoneman. And our Editor, Bridie Squires, will be hosting the very special festival preview even at the Fox and Grapes on Thursday 5 April, 7pm. Don’t miss it.
There’s far too much juice for us to mention here, so head over to the Nottingham Poetry Festival website for all the finer details.
