After winning Noise from the Next Generation a few months ago, Burnside Green are still going strong and rocking the stage a little more every time. On this occasion, it was at one of Notts’ best live music venues, The Maze, where the talented lads played a headline slot on Tuesday 14 August for Notts in a Nutshell, as part of an impressive lineup of Nottingham’s best up-and-coming musicians.

Although new to the music scene, lead vocalist Nathan Bull spoke with confidence and kept the audience captivated both in between and during songs. Nathan’s voice brilliantly suits the band’s alt-rock image; perfectly accompanied by the voice of Harry Sporton, as well as the backing vocals of Kurtis Brade. Each member of the four-piece is a talented musician, with drummer Joe Bull holding the band together, and keeping perfect time with a seamless performance.

Being the headline act of the night, the audience were well warmed up by the time 9.30pm came round.  As the band began to play, friends, family and strangers proved an excellent crowd. A certain group of teens really got into it, at one point passing a proper funny body wave through the crowd. No one could argue that Burnside Green weren’t giving the boggers a good night.

In particular, bass player Kurtis brought the stage alive not only with his incredible skills as a rocking bassist, but with his – arguably – very funky dance moves as he played. If there’s one thing that helps an audience enjoy and feel the music it is being able to see the musicians themselves absolutely loving it and these guys definitely gave us that.

In the final song, guitarist Nathan gave us a particularly impressive riff, and by the looks of it he enjoyed it almost as much as the audience. Then there was Harry’s outstanding work on the keyboard, really bringing in the band’s influences from guitar- and piano-driven rock. These lads are shining bright.
